Kushida reveals why he left WWE

There have been quite a few departures from WWE NXT over the past few months, including Kushida, who left after his contract expired. Kushida now wrestles in several companies, including New Japan Pro-Wrestling and Impact Wrestling, and during a recent interview with NJPW He revealed what led to his departure from WWE. The logic was twofold, as Kushida noted the significant shift in NXT’s approach to matches and its stars as well as his desire to move to Los Angeles. He wasn’t allowed to move out of Orlando as part of NXT, but once he started shifting and a slight spike in releases, he saw these as signs that it was time to leave.

Well, to set the scene a little bit, the volume in WWE is really relentless. In August of 2021 there was a really sudden change of mind there. They mainly wanted to train young wrestlers, under 30s, who didn’t have PRO-Wrestling experience and has come from other sports backgrounds. When it comes to me, I don’t think it’s too controversial to say it left me redundant, Kushida said.

“You have to remember that I was 36 when I got an offer from WWE. It still seemed kind of hard to believe that HHH was going to hook up with a show… So with this guys being pushed in there, it wasn’t like I had,” Kushida said. My time machine is, so it became ‘Okay, what can I do here?’. Everyone was asking the same questions, actually.” “NJPW immediately popped into my head. I immediately felt very strongly that Los Angeles would be the best place to establish myself. Even when I was in WWE, I wanted to move from Orlando to Los Angeles, but the company wouldn’t let me; This hurt my motives a bit, hey. I think there’s a little magic about L.A. that made it somewhere I’ve always wanted to live.”

Now Kushida has moved on wrestling everywhere, and he’s ready to wrestle as part of every tour that happens in Japan.

“Well, the position I have right now is that I want to base myself in LA and wrestle as much as I can in Japan and all over the world. I think there has to be at least someone with that mentality in NJPW, it’s 2022 after all. I “Not depriving Japan of anything at all and I’m basically going to be a part of every tour that takes place in Japan,” Kushida said. And that’s something I told the company as well.”
